Featuring Simon Rivard, conductor Danika Lorèn, soprano On the Program John Kander & Fred Ebb: Cabaret, from “Cabaret” – 4 Minutes Kurt Weill: Suite from Threepenny Opera (arr. Simon Rivard) – 20 Minutes William Bolcom, Cabaret Songs – 10 Minutes Dmitri Shostakovich: Waltz from Jazz Suite No. 2 – 4 Minutes Jacques Ibert: Divertissment – 15 minutes The evening opens with music from John Kander and Fred Ebb’s Cabaret, bringing the sound of the theatre straight into the hall, lively, a little cheeky, and sometimes quietly reflective. Songs by William Bolcom follow, continuing that cabaret tradition with music that feels close, personal, and directly connected to the words. Works by Kurt Weill, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Jacques Ibert bring variety to the second half of the program, from the well known waltz by Dimitri Shostakovich to theatrical song and lighter orchestral pieces, creating an evening shaped by stage music, memorable tunes, and strong character.
