Part of The George Street Festival
Jul 31-Aug 1 · Jul 31, 5:00 PM - Aug 1, 3:00 AM · George Street · St. John’s, NL
NIGHT 2 of The George Street Festival features Alan Doyle & Nick Earle & the Reckless Hearts.
ALAN DOYLE & NICK EARLE & THE RECKLESS HEARTS Alan Doyle When you’re as busy as Alan Doyle, you create music whenever and wherever you can. So, it’s not shocking to hear that his six-song EP, Already Dancing, was recorded in six studios across five cities in two countries – especially considering that last year may have been the busiest of his more-than-three-decade career. With Already Dancing, Doyle and his collaborators recorded wherever they happened to be. Featuring five original songs (including the foot-stomping first single “Nancy,” with The East Pointers) as well as Doyle’s version of the 1986 Spirit of the West classic “The Crawl” (with the band’s legendary co-founder Geoffrey Kelly on whistle and vocals), Already Dancing took shape in: St. John’s, Newfoundland; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, PEI; and Santa Monica, California, before Doyle brought the whole team together at the National Music Centre in Calgary to finish it off. Doyle’s CV is extensive: founding member of Great Big Sea, a best-selling author, a film and TV actor-producer with multiple major credits, including starring in the wildly successful musical Tell Tale Harbour. Yet the wildly popular musician from Petty Harbour, Newfoundland remains most electrifying before a live audience, abetted by his ace band. “I am the luckiest guy in the world,” Doyle says. “It’s such a privilege to stand among those players on stage.” Nick Earle & The Reckless Hearts Nick Earle is quickly becoming one of the most electrifying names in Canadian rock. Hailing from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Earle has spent over a decade honing his craft on stages across North America, first as one half of the award-winning blues duo Earle & Coffin, before shifting gears into something bigger, louder, and unmistakably his own. Between the two acts he has earned 23 MusicNL awards and 2 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Now leading Nick Earle & The Reckless Hearts, he’s bringing a fresh surge of energy to rock ‘n’ roll; balancing sharp songwriting with show-stopping guitar work that’s as technical as it is explosive. Their live show is a high-octane, no-apologies blast of guitars, sweat, and swagger - earning them spots alongside the likes of Nickelback, Matt Mays, The Trews, and Third Eye Blind. Nick Earle & The Reckless Hearts are channeling something raw, real, and recklessly alive - bringing East Coast Rock to the masses, one hook at a time. After the breakout success of No More Hiding and its viral single “Born to Lose” (5.1M+ TikTok plays, ECMA-nominated), Earle returns in Spring 2025 with Under the Influence, his most ambitious work yet, shaped over two years of writing, recording, and live shows. Now signed to 745 Music Management (founded by Jay Emmons of The Glorious Sons), Earle is leveling up with a national spotlight, including a slot opening for ZZ Top and The Killers in Summer 2025. Whether it’s a smokey bar room stage or a summer festival crowd, Nick Earle is channeling something raw, real, and recklessly alive - bringing East Coast Rock to the masses, one hook at a time.
