Join us Sunday July 12, 7-9pm for a very special evening of Jazz, with three superb players:John Stein was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri USA where he took up his instrument at an early age. His talent for and love of music ultimately earned him a faculty position at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he was a longtime Professor in the Harmony Department. John is an experienced teacher, clinician, recording artist, and author, and has performed as a leader or a sideman with some of the world's finest jazz acts, including David “Fathead” Newman, Lou Donaldson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Idris Muhammid, Zé Eduardo Nazario, Teco Cardoso, Bill Pierce, John LaPorta, Ron Gill, and others. His compositions and performances cover the spectrum of jazz styles.https://johnstein.com/Jim Vivian has been at the forefront of music making in Canada for over 35 years, and has performed and/or recorded with many well known jazz artists working in the country past and present. Originally from Newfoundland, he moved from St. John’s to Toronto in 1979 to pursue classical bass studies. During the early 1980’s he began to focus more on jazz and improvised music, studying with Dave Holland at the Banff centre, and later in New York City with Holland and Marc Johnson.Jim has long-standing associations with many musicians in Canada and around the world, and appears on over 130 recordings, over 30 of which have been nominated for Juno awards in as many years (5 winners). Jim holds a Masters Degree in Music from York University, and was on faculty at the University of Toronto Jazz Program from 2001 to 2021, as well as at York University from 2005 to 2021. He is very happy to be back in St. John’s after over 40 years on the mainland.Jim Vivian NSOJacob Slous is a professional drummer, composer, and educator based in St. John's. Jacob is fortunate to have played alongside members of the Grammy award-winning BADBADNOTGOOD, and JUNO award-winning musicians such as Florian Hoefner and Elizabeth Shepherd. Jacob is also honoured to have performed with musicians such as bassist Jm Vivian, trumpeter Tim Hagans, and former leader of “The Tonight Show Band” - Doc Severinsen. Walk-ins may be available on the day of the show - please drop in or call 709-722-9167 to confirm.Our Kitchen closes at 3:00pm, but snacks and baked treats are available till 9:00.Please arrive at least 15 mins early to get seated and avoid the rush. Groups of 3 or more will be assigned a table; free seating for singles and couples. Please check in with our staff before seating yourself.Seats will be held for 30 mins after the show start, after which they may be given to walk-ins.
